Sutton, Stroud 189pp. Plates

Synopsis: Heaven Next Stop, first published in the English language in 1953, is the personal story of a German fighter pilot set in the last years of the Second World War. Bloemertz was one of the legendary "Abbeville Boys" who flew Focke-Wulf Fw190 day fighters from their base in Northern France against RAF fighters and US bombers which intruded into enemy occupied Europe. Bloemertz describes life on the squadron, his fellow pilots and their almost daily dogfights with RAF Spitfires and USAAF Flying Fortresses. Bloemertz concludes his story by relating the part he played as a fighter pilot defending the crumbling Third Reich in its final death throes in 1945.
